Was at the NY Guggenheim this weekend with Mom. I walked in and I could hear 50 Cent blasting and I was very confused as to how his work could be considered art. Turns out it was part of an installation there that was a dance floor with lights that were syncronized to the club music. Clever design and totally trippy as you can see with this video but I still don't think it's art. My Mom doesn't understand why Modrian's work is considered art, but she liked these pretty lights. I guess everyone has their own tastes.

i love mondrian. i think many of his compositions are perfectly proportioned. many of his paintings were apparently inspired by music from his time, jazz in particular, and to me this is really fascinating as it reveals interesting scoops about the past, present and future of art. you can see his paintings traveling through time with him ... like an artistic journey.
perhaps your mom is just not that into minimalist abstract art? :)
thats not art, its a gimmick. and why 50 Cent? oh yeah, he's a gimmick too.

oh and you were right the murakami show sucked. i wouldn't even call it a show.
