Gay Taliban

A good friend of mine from highschool, Elaine Chin, was in New York and came across these photos found by photographer Mark Dworzak while he spent time in Afghanistan. The above photo is his own photo but go to the Magnum Photos site here to see the very strange photos that he found of the Taliban. What's going on with the art direction and the make up? Maybe they had a gay stylist do 'em up for the shoot like THK! Actually that happens to me a lot when I do fashion spreads for magazines. Who knew Taliban fighters got emasculated too! I feel for them.

I went to the site and took a look at those portraits. I am not a professional photographer but the ones bearing very heavy make-ups (gay-like) do remind me of the good-old-days hand-tinted color photos based on b&w. In the middle of 1970s, China was full of hand-tinted color photos which usually feminized men a little bit due to the fashion of the techniques.

Jan Saudek, a Czech photographer, is best-known for his handtinting techniques. To me, his skill is much better than the taliban technicians working in those studios.

Well, my second thoughts is that the gallery is probably a mixture of old and modern portraits.

Thanks for sharing. Learning something new from your blog every time. :)

Isn't that the nature of the business? When you have to rely on
your super hot body to earn a living.
Screen idol that you are!
