Flavored Rice?
Came across this place in SOHO the other day and was trying to figure out what the hell this place sells. All I got are questions. Flavored rice? Is this like when some white people put butter on or douse their rice in soy sauce but only much more advanced? Whatever it is, it's strange.
But if these are the flavors of the day and the sign is fixed, then that means the flavors never change...right? Why would you want to eat Cookies and Cream flavored rice? What's wrong with plain old white rice?
What's with this sign? Is there a lot of illegal and indecent activity happening at this place? This sign and the confusing nature of this food place kept me from going in. Anybody been here? What the fuck is it?

they sell dessert — rice pudding.
its a rice pudding place. not my thing. seems more of an overrated tourist trap than anything else. id rather walk the extra blocks east to Sugar Sweet Sunshine and grab a cupcake.
that place is a piece of shit. I've been there years ago when it just opened. I swear, I was like, "hey, this place is going to close down cause it lacks content, it's all novelty," but guess not, I know I passed by that place a few weeks ago and was cursing on how this place was still open and 5 dollars for a tiny rice pudding was fuckin' ridiculous even w/ the stupid plastic containers. It looks the same as it did 5 years ago except a little bit dirtier and not quite as trend feelin' now.... alright, good luck w/ that.
It's a rice pudding place that costs WAY too much. The pudding is ok (some of the flavors are funky) but you're really just paying for the container, the cap and the spoon...
lol i always past by it, i always look at it funny cause i think its retarded, want good rice its all in chinatown
Rice to riches is a rice pudding store, explaining all the flavors you saw. I think the only one is on spring street in soho. But, it's actually really good if you like rice pudding.
OMG that post was friggin hilarious!! I've never ever heard of flavored rice before reading this. Seriously, I don't know why anyone would want to eat rice in all those weird flavors. Personally, I think it's kinda gross. Ah well. I may have to go to SOHO just to check this place out now :D
Jasmine rice bro'...that's the rage amongst us Chinese folks.
Brown rice...that's the rage amongst the health nuts. I've tried it,...it's okay. Now C-town and 99 Ranch sells some kind of mixture rice that is brown with a lot of other grains, etc... in it. They call it "healthy grain/rice"--jiankang mi
Thai Mango rice is cool
That stuff in SOHO sounds kinda' nasty.
Ever seen the scene from "Better Tomorrow II" in the restaurant and about rice?
I think it's rice pudding.
the store front used to be a druggies hang out place, thus explains the warning signs.
IF you like rice pudding... you will like this place.. but it is seriously overpriced... you should take a trip to the grocery store and get a tin of ambrosia rice pudding.. its the shit... but a british thing...
Ambrosia rice pudding is excellent - here in the UK it's a good dessert for cold weather. Which we're having now in July...
It's not the same rice you get in Chinatown, maybe a little bit like glutinous rice. The grains are shorter and when you cook them in milk they swell up and go really soft so it's like a kinda ricy oatmeal.
If you make your own, you put sugar in it too and maybe nutmeg, vanilla, whatever takes your fancy. It's nice as is, you don't need any other flavorings :)

I love this place. I love anything almond flavored and they have a rice pudding with a really nice almond taste. It is expensive, but I'll pay $5 for a good dessert. I didn't think I'd even like rice pudding but this place caught my interest.
